Weinfahrt (Vineyard Tour)
October 28, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 8:00 pm
***** AN RSVP ON THIS PAGE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY RESERVE A SPOT. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS ***
The details for our 2017 Vineyard Tour have been worked out and we’re excited to open up the registration process!
We’ve reserved a 54 person bus and are planning on meeting in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart on South Tryon Street around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28th with a planned departure of 09:00 a.m. We’re currently working on figuring out the funding of certain aspects of the trip, but we’re planning on offering snacks, Sekt, and other beverages on the drive out West. Due to liability concerns both for the club and the bus company, there won’t be any open alcoholic beverages allowed on the bus for the return trip.
The first stop of our trip is downtown Hendersonville, NC and we’re hoping to arrive around 11:00 a.m. Shortly after our arrival a manager from the local tourism office will give us a brief overview of the downtown area. On Main Street there are numerous bars, restaurants, Ice cream parlors, and various other shops and we’re planning on giving everyone around 2hrs to eat and explore everything that the quaint, little city has to offer.
Following the stop in Hendersonville, we’re then going to be visiting Burntshirt Vineyards and St. Paul’s Mountain Vineyards. At each of these locations there will be a group wine tasting and at Burntshirt we’ve also arranged a tour of the production facility. At St. Paul’s Mountain Vineyards, participants will also have a chance to wander across the street and visit the newly opened Appalachian Ridge Cidery. The owners of St. Paul’s Mountain Vineyard have renovated a rustic old barn into a small distillery and in October, they should have three different kinds of Schnapps and a French Brandy available for people to try.
After our stop at St. Paul’s Mountain Vineyards and Appalachian Ridge Cidery, we’re planning on returning to Charlotte with an expected ETA of 8:00/8:30 p.m. Participating in the Weinfahrt costs $45 for non-members and $40 for club members. This price includes the bus ride, wine tastings at Burntshirt Vineyards and St. Paul’s Mountain Vineyards, and the tour of the production facility at Burntshirt. Tasting the various ciders and Schnapps at Appalachian Ridge Cider is unfortunately not included, but the owners have advised that a tasting of their various offerings would probably only cost around $7. In order to register for the event, please send and email to Steven, our club president (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Helene, our secretary (email@example.com). Checks can be sent to the following PO Box:
Alemannia German Society of Charlotte
PO Box 12652
Charlotte, NC 28220
If you’re interested in participating but still have some questions, please feel free to reach out to Steven or Helene either via this page or the email addresses listed above. Participants are expected to have an interest in the German language and or culture. We hope to see some of you there and we’ll be sure to advise everyone when the bus is at capacity!
Wein vergoldet jeden Tag
Scheucht hinweg des Daseins Plag,
Macht die Menschen froh und heiter,
Ihren Geist sehr viel gescheiter,
Lässt das Leben schön erscheinen,
Die Gedanken Gutes meinen,
Lässt uns all zu Freunden werden,
Friedlich wird es dann auf Erden.
Wer den Wein so klug genießt,
Freude aus den Sternen liest,
Merkt an seines Herzens Schlag:
Wein vergoldet jeden Tag
